Synology said it has started shipping its previously-announced DX510 expansion chassis for its DS1010+ and DS710+ NASes.

The DX510 uses an eSATA port multiplier to connect up to five 2.5 or 3.5" SATA drives to the main NAS via a single eSATA cable.

The drives in the DX510 can be used to expand internal RAID volumes or create new volumes.

The DX510 is available now at street pricing around $480.
