WD logoQNAP has announced a new family of Intel i3 powered NASes and a Marvell-powered two-bay for home users.

The TS-x70 Pro comes in 4, 6 and 8-bay (hot-swappable) desktop versions and is targeted at home and small office users.

A hardware platform based on a dual-core 3.3 GHz Intel Core i3 processor and 2 GB of DDR3 RAM is intended to provide enough power for HD digital playback via the built-in HDMI port using its bundled XBMC media player.

Ports include dual Gigabit Ethernet, three USB 2.0, two USB 3.0, two eSATA, one HDMI and analog audio out and mic in. There is also a PCIe expansion slot that supports optional dual Gigabit Ethernet or dual 10 GbE network boards. Both 2.5" and 3.5" hard and solid state drives are supported.

QNAP also said the new series can deliver real-time audio and video transcoding and specs file transfer speeds of up to 447 MB/s read and 446 MB/s write when using an optional aggregated four Gigabit LAN port configuration.

Also announced was the TS-212P two-bay NAS, powered by a 1.6 GHz Marvell 88F6282 Kirkwood SoC with 512 MB of DDR3 RAM and 16 MB of flash memory. Ports are minimal, only a single Gigabit Ethernet LAN one USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0. The system accepts only 3.5" hard drives.

All the new NASes support the full feature set of QNAP's QTS 4.0 operating system that supports a wide array of iSCSI, virtualization, backup, media playback, mobile access and cloud storage options.

The TS-212P is street priced around $190 and is available now.

The TS-470 Pro, TS-670 Pro and TS-870 Pro are also shipping now at steet prices around $1000, $1500 and $1700, respectively.
