QNAP Beefs Up Virtual Support, AFP Performance

QNAP has announced enhanced virtualization features for its business NAS families

VMware VAAI support includes Full copy, Block zeroing and Hardware-assisted locking.

The vSphere Client Plug-in allows managing VMware datastores on the Turbo NAS directly from the vSphere Client console.

VMware VAAI and the vSphere Client Plug-in are supported by QNAP’s TS-x79, TS-x70, and TS-x69 series, which are also officially certified for Windows Server 2012.

The company also said it has improved AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) performance on small file transfers by as much as 38% for read and 152% for write, depending on the processor platform.

New firmware supporting the enhancements will be available via free download shortly.
