Linksys logoLinksys has updated its top-of-line AC1900 class router.

Linksys today announced the WRT1900ACS Dual-Band Gigabit Router. This is the same WRT1900AC V2 outed via firmware release notes back in April. The ACS replaces the AC, which will be gone when the last one is sold.

From the outside, the ACS looks the same as its original sibling. But inside, the ACS has lost the fan, upgraded to a 1.6 GHz dual-core Marvell Armada 38X processor and doubled RAM to 512 MB.

Everything else remains the same including the four-antenna design, USB 3.0 and combination USB 2.0 / eSATA ports.

After much sturm und drang, Linksys has finally sorted through its troubles with the open source community and Marvell and is announcing "full open source support" for OpenWrt’s Chaos Calmer release (15.05) as of right now.

The WRT1900ACS can be pre-ordered now from Amazon, NewEgg and the Linksys store, with shipments starting Sunday October 11. MSRP remains the same at $229.99. If you’re ok ordering the original WRT1900AC, you can get it for $195 and save $35 at Amazon.
