It is one of the few offerings of both gigabit and dual band in a single box. Netgear's 3300, covers the dual band but they crippled the thing with a 100 switch which seems insane with the cost of things these days.

I am curious if this will have more 5ghz channels available than the Dlink gaming router.

Ok well it's the battle of the chipsets from what I can see. 4500 would do the trick since the USB adapter is not available.

Any fine details that might make the choice of either 600 (Broadcom) or 4500 (Atheros) any easier? Wonder if either does better with the Centrino N client as I use a couple of those around the house (in G mode right now, but this upgrade would allow them to be N clients)

I'm reading all I can on both.

I suppose the 10/100 would be "ok" on the 3300, but not ideal. Its not like modems are yet going over that. It just seems like a "planned obsolescence" move rather than a cost move but the difference in pricing from the 600 to the 3300 does make the 3300 an option.

Not sure if you've gotten any prelim tests on the 3300, but would assume it could do "as well" on the WAN side as the 600.

I went for the DGL-4500 because I was tired of waiting for the DIR-855. I'm glad I did because that baby seems to be a still-birth.

I wish D-Link would give us a 5GHz n card! I'm even willing to try the DWA-160 if it were to appear locally so I can easily return it because I don't have much hope for it, but would rather have a CardBus a/b/g/n adapter. Even an a/n would do me fine.

Bought a Netgear WNDR3300 this morning after the latest round of DIR-855 foolishness. Yes, it doesn't have gigabit wired switches, but it's still dual-band. . .and I paid $109. Compare that price to WRT600N and/or DIR-855. Things are so painfully slow I think I'd prefer to go for "good enough cheap" right now and revisit in 2009. The DIR-855 was announced 14 months ago! I'm tired of waiting for .n, and want to start enjoying it.

The only dual-band a/b/g/n Cardbus card out right now is the Linksys WPC600N.

So how do you like the 4500 and the 3300? It "appears" that the 4500 is going to be 90% of what the 855 is, so I doubt you made a bad choice. The 3300 seems like a sensible (have something now but leave enough in the bank to revisit an upgrade in 2009) kind of thing.

Given the fact that you aren't likely to exceed the USB bandwidth, I'd think the DWA-160 would do fine.

Years ago I got a tiny "elbow" USB adapter that just changes the direction of the port so those sticks point straight up in the air instead of pointing out from a side. I'm sure those devices still exist and it was pretty cheap.

Man.. i remember this being announced basically a year ago now.. I should've bought the linksys last year... is there anything even close to be released anytime soon from anyone that competes with the wrt600n??

It's even available locally in Australia already too and at about $100 cheaper then it would cost to bring in a wrt600n from overseas!!!

It's just a damn shame they don't allow 11n on the 2.5GHz radio :( Will it still suffer from the same legacy issues as other routers if 11a & n are allowed on the same radio??
