Synology Announces New NAS OS, Features, Android Apps

Synology today unveiled a beta program for its completely revamped DiskStation OS.

DiskStation Manager (DSM) 3.0 features a completely revamped user interface that uses a desktop and widgets to provide simultaneous views of multiple management features.

In addition to the new GUI, new features include:

• New Android apps including DS cam, DS photo+ and DS audio provide mobile access to multimedia and surveillance cameras

• Updated iPhone DS photo+ app with video support and improved interface

• EXT4 File system support

• Windows ACL Support

• Compatibility with VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Citrix Xen

• WebDAV support, IPv6 Integration, enhanced iSCSI features and more

Synology DSM 3.0 beta supports only the the following models: DS411+, DS1010+, RS810+, RS810RP+, DS410, DS410j, DS710+, DS210+, DS210j, DS110+, DS110j, DS509+, RS409+, RS409RP+, RS409, DS409+, DS409, DS209+II, DS209+, DS209, DS209j, DS109+, DS109, DS109j, DS409slim, RS408, RS408-RP, DS508, DS408, DS108j, RS407, CS407, CS407e, DS207+, DS207, DS107+, DS107, DS107e.

Note that some features are not available on the RS407, CS407, CS407e, DS207+, DS207, DS107+, DS107, DS107e, DS108j, and DS109j.
