The ReadyNAS Vault service uses ElephantDrive‘s online backup and storage service, which in turn uses Amazon S3. The new Vault service is first available on the ReadyNAS Pro and will later be available on all other ReadyNAS products.

The Vault is integrated into the ReadyNAS OS and does not require a application to be installed or run on any network clients. Backup jobs and recovery tasks are all accessible via a browser-based console.

Backups can be made as files are changed or as a scheduled batch job. Backups are differential and done over an 128-bit SSL encrypted connection. Stored files are encrypted with 256-bit AES.

ReadyNAS Vault is available in a consumer version supporting one NAS and 5 GB of storage for $5.95/mo. and in a business version handling up to five NASes and 20 GB of storage for $19.95/mo.

NETGEAR also introduced "green" versions of its ProSafe JGS516v2 and JGS524v2 16 and 24 Port Gigabit, ProSafe GS105v3 and GS108v3 5 and 8 Port Gigabit Desktop and GS605v3 and GS608v3 5 and 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Switches.

The company claims up to 50 percent power reduction over current designs by incorporating auto port power down and auto cable length detection features. The new versions will be available next quarter.

Also announced were three new managed Layer 2 10/100 switches. The FSM726E, FSM7226RS and FSM7250RS all support 802.1x authentication, ACLs, SSLv3 web GUI and SSH command line control, 802.1p QoS with eight priority queues and IGMP querier.

The ProSafe FSM7226RS and FSM7250RS are fully managed 10/100 24 and 48 port switches with two Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000 Mbps or 1GE SFP) ports and supporting 32 static routes. These models also have two dedicated stacking connectors, each providing 5 Gbps of full duplex switch-to-switch bandwidth. The FSM726E has 24 10/100 ports plus two hot-swappable, small form-factor, pluggable (SFP) Gigabit interfaces, but no stacking ports.

The FSM726E, FSM7226RS and FSM7250RS are available now at street pricing as low as $280, $330 and $600, respectively.
