The StreamEngine 7000 family is software-compatible with the current StreamEngine 5000 line and delivers higher performance with lower power in a smaller package with a reduced bill of materials.

The new processors are 20 percent more efficient and are clocked at more than 500MHz. Other enhancements over the 5000 family include hardware thread expansion from 10 to 12, DSP instruction set additions and support for two gigabit Ethernet interfaces.

The new processors are sampling now, with volume production slated for Q4 2008.
